Eczema Babies |

The baby is crying, struggling with eczema – that is hard to see. It is hard for them, they don't know what is going on, what to do – all they know is that it hurts or it is itchy and there is nothing that they can do about it. But it is also hard on you, the parent. You don't what to do or where to turn. The creams from the pharmacy doesn't seem to work very well. Remember that for a young baby that only way they can tell you that something is wrong is to cry so check some of the obvious things first. First start with the bedding. As with all eczema sufferers, the wrong fabrics next to your skin will just make matters worse. You need 100% soft cotton, especially for the clothing and blankets that will be on the baby all day. And make sure they are cleaned regularly, so that bacteria doesn't have a place to grow. The bacteria will cause itching which can lead to a breakout of eczema. Make sure the laundry soap has no strong agents or perfume in it both of which can cause problems for sensitive skin. Bath your baby regularly, at least once a day. As with all baths, make sure the water is the right tempurature and stay away from harsh soaps. Bathing will help stop bacteria from attacking the sensitive skin which in turn will help reduce the liklihood of eczema. Keep your baby's skin moisturized – this works for adult sufferers as well. When a baby's skin is painful or itchy, it is a very stressful time for them and the stress in turn can make the eczema worse so anything you can do like moisturizing is very helpful. After bathing and drying with a soft towel, you can apply a good moisturizer to the slightly damp skin. This will help lock in the remaining moisture into the skin. |
