Eczema Cream

The most common treatment for eczema is the cream.

What are the causes of this skin problem? Like many medical conditions, there is no definitive answer. You may be genetically disposed to sensitive skin. Eczema could then be triggered by such diverse things as an allergy or asthma, stress, foods. In fact asthma is quite common to those with eczema. If you are allergic to certain foods, they could make your eczema worse. And of course, certain types of clothing such as woollen goods can cause eczema to worsen.

One treatment for eczema is the use of eczema creams and lotions. Greasy ointments (although they sound gross) can be some of the best moisturizers for the skin. And keeping your skin moisturized is on of the major benefits to ointments and lotions. Brand names such as Aquaphor and Vaseline are two popular choices in treating eczema.

For more severe outbreaks, prescriptions ointments include Dermatop and Triamcinolone. These are very potent and hopefully will only need to be used for a short time. It is not advisable to use these products on children since they are very powerful drugs and could cause other problems.

Anything you can do to lock moisture into the skin is a positive step. For example having a lukewarm bath using only a mild soap, preferably with moisturizing properties is one thing you can do. Try to avoid strong soaps or other cleansers. This can help minimize the development of eczema and hence to limit your use of powerful eczema creams. Once you are able to deal with the rash, do everything you can to avoid having a repeat flare up. So moisturizing eczema creams should be one of your first lines of defence.
